John Barrowman{jcomments on}John Barrowman has said it would be “disappointing” if Captain Jack Harkness didn’t return to Doctor Who for its 50th anniversary.

The BBC sci-fi series will celebrate its landmark anniversary in 2013 and fans have already begun to speculate over how the event may be marked. Doctor Who’s 10th and 20th anniversaries were marked with Multi-Doctor stories (The Three Doctors, The Five Doctorswhich also saw a host of former companions return) with fans hoping the 50th anniversary will follow suit. David Tennant has already stated he’d happily return to Doctor Who though Ninth Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston has indicated he would be unlikely to return.

John Barrowman, currently playing Jack Harkness in Torchwood Miracle Day, as previously stated he would like to return to Doctor Who at some point in its future. Speaking at the Comic Con panel for Torchwood the actor stated he would like to be part of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

“I would love to do it. I think it would be disappointing for the 50th anniversary not to have a character like Jack in that show. Russell thinks it would be a good idea, I’ve spoken to Steven about it. I’m totally up for it. I love playing Jack, whether it would be with Torchwood or making an appearance on Doctor Who.” – John Barrowman at Comic Con

Current Doctor Who actor Matt Smith has signed up for a seventh series which will be aired across 2012 and 2013 with the BBC planning a “special run” for its 50th anniversary. Fans of Doctor Who will also be hoping that original series actors Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy will also be part of the 50th anniversary celebrations – especially if there is a ‘multi-doctor’ story.

Torchwood Miracle Day continues tonight on Starz in America and in the UK next Thursday on BBC One. UK residents can catch-up on the second episode, Rendition, on the BBC iPlayer. Doctor Who will return later in the year, to BBC One, for the remainder of its sixth season.
