The Bold and the Beautiful to go HD

The Bold and the Beautiful{jcomments on}CBS soap The Bold and the Beautiful is to begin filming in High Definition later this summer.

Fans of the soap will notice the switch in September as it begins airing episodes filmed in HD. The move to HD comes a ten years after sister soap The Young and the Restless began filming in HD – it was the first daytime soap in America to do so. However, other soaps were slower to make the move with General Hospital following suit in 2009. Fellow ABC soap All My Children made the switch to HD in 2010 as part of its relocation – production wise – from New York to Los Angeles. Days of our Lives marked its 45th anniversary last year by also upgrading to HD on NBC. The costs involved in switching to HD – which can involve updating sets as well as production facilities – are the likely reason why soaps have been slow to upgrade.

The Bold and the Beautiful upgrade to HD comes just months ahead of its 25th anniversary next March. Episodes of the soap in HD will begin airing from early September.
