Will Young was "terrified" of being gay

{jcomments on}Singer and actor Will Young and admitted he was “terrified” of being gay when he was younger.

The musician won the first series of Pop Idol on ITV1 in 2002 – the series has since been replaced by The X Factor. Unlike so many others who won television talent contestants Will Young has remained in the public spot-light since thanks to a continuing successful musical career and more recently acting roles. Shortly after winning Pop Idol in 2002 Young came out as gay and has since been voted as one of the best role models for gay teens but in a new interview the singer has admitted he was “terrified” of being gay at one point.

“I was terrified of being gay so I didn’t really feel sexual until I was about 26… I was quite inhibited. I feel like I’ve reached a place that I’m happy with, worked out things I will never do. It’s taken me years to work that out.” – Will Young in Attitude

One of the actors’ most recent roles was in Sky Living’s supernatural series Bedlam opposite Theo James, Charlotte Salt and Ashley Madekwe. Bedlam has yet to be officially renewed for a second series although writers are believed to be working towards one.
