BBC personality Fiona Bruce has been at the receiving end of a ‘Tiswas-style’ prank while recording The Anitques Roadshow last month.
Two men, aged 42 and 32, squirted Bruce in the face with foam from an aerosol. The incident was said to have been a ‘light hearted prank’ however unlike the foam squirting, custard pie throwing, antics towards celebrity guests on children’s magazine show Tiswas she failed to see the funny side. The BBC News anchor and former Crimewatch presenter has been the victim of a stalker. Peter Oakey was detained under the mental health act after inundating her with letters and cards.
The men were arrested for common assault and given £80 fixed penalty notices after the incident at Hartland Abbey, Devon last month. Around 2,500 people had turned up to have their heirlooms valued for The Antiques Roadshow, however most had departed by the time Fiona was foamed for fun.
Devon police told The Sun: “We don’t think there was any intention to cause harm, although she didn’t know that.”
Fiona Bruce had just prior to the incident been recovering from an eye infection, ditching her contact lenses, which caused viewers to ponder why she’d started wearing glasses to present the news.
Speaking to the Daily Mail she said “Some of the theories show great imagination. The idea that I wanted to come across as a dominatrix topped the lot”.
