Entertainment Weekly are reporting that ABC is expected to officially announce tomorrow that the 8th season of Desperate Housewives will be its last and that the drama will end its run in May 2012. There had been various press reports over the past few weeks indicating that ABC were considering such a move. The reports stated though the future of Desperate Housewives likely depended on its own performance over its 8th season and the performance of ABC’s new line-up of dramas such as Charlie’s Angels, Pan-Am and Once Upon a Time.

There was also some speculation that the comedy/drama would continue for a 9th season which would be its late. Showrunner/creator Marc Cherry reportedly had a deal that could have taken the show forward for a ninth season. However, lead stars Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria only signed a one-year contract with they renewed their deals with ABC earlier this year but the new contracts did include options for a ninth.

While Desperate Housewives now longer commands the kind of ratings it once did the series still attracts a sizable audience. Former cast members of the series include Nicollette Sheridan, Jesse Metcalfe, Alfre Woodard and Dana Delany.
