Stephanie Cole will limit her time on Coronation Street
{jcomments on}Actress Stephanie Cole has said she won’t stay in ITV soap Coronation Street forever.
Cole joined the Manchester based soap earlier this year as Sylvia Goodwin; the outspoken mother of Roy Cropper (David Neilson). The character is seen by some as a replacement for Blanche Hunt because of her blunt and outspoken characteristics. The character has been well received by fans but actress Stephanie Cole has said, in a new interview, that she’ll limit her time on Coronation Street.
“I’ll limit my time there. With TV, after four series I always say, ‘Thank you, that’s the end of it!’ That’s why I left Doc Martin – there are other mountains to climb, other rivers to swim. I absolutely respect people who spend a long time doing one thing, but I’m not made like that.” – Stephanie Cole in an interview with TV Times.
Cole also discussed working on the soap and her battleaxe character of Sylvia.
“She’s not just the mother-in-law from hell or a harsh autocratic woman, but a mixture of things and a well-rounded character,..She’s an amalgam of lots of people I’ve known over the years and the Corrie writers give you such a lot in the scripts.”- Stephanie Cole in an interview with TV Times.
Stephanie Cole has a long and varied career; prior to joining Coronation Street she played Joan Norton opposite Martin Clunes in ITV’s hugely popular Doc Martin until she bowed out in 2009. Cole’s other notable roles include Diana Trent in Waiting for God, Mrs Featherstone in Open All Hours and the formidable Dr. Beatrice Mason in the critically acclaimed BBC war-time drama Tenko.
