ITV suffering from ratings slump

ITV1{jcomments off}ITV1 is suffering from a ratings slump after several new entertainment shows failed to take off with audiences.

ITV bosses will be looking forward to the return of The X Factor on Saturday and the welcome boost in ratings it will bring. The broadcaster has suffered from a ratings slump over the Summer as its range of entertainment shows fail to capture the audiences imagination. According to media reports on Sunday ITV averaged less than 1 million viewers – a new low for the channel.

ITV probably had high hopes for the likes of Born To Shine, The Marriage Ref, Show Me The Funny, Penn and Teller: Fool Us, Odd One In and Popstar to Operastar but all of them have failed to deliver big ratings. It’s been widely speculated that Popstar to Operastar and The Marriage Ref have been axed by ITV following their poor ratings.

Bosses will hope that audiences return for The X Factor despite the absence of Simon Cowell – who will return to the series later on. Popular judges Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole have also been replaced but ITV will be hoping that curiosity gets viewers in and the X Factor’s formula of wacky wannabes and talented performers will still deliver mega ratings.
