Top Gear episodes to be made available on Facebook
Episodes of BBC Two’s hugely popular Top Gear are to be available to Facebook users but for a cost.
BBC Worldwide is to make episodes of the Jeremy Clarkson fronted series available to users of the social networking site Facebook for 93p. The corporation’s commercial arm has developed a new app for Facebook that will allow its users to rent a limited number of Top Gear episodes using credits – to begin with three episodes will available to users.
BBC Worldwide struck a similar deal with Facebook last month to allow users to watch classic episodes Doctor Who and this week Miramax unveiled a movie streaming service via Facebook at a cost of 30 credits which works out at $3 each. Social networking sites are increasingly seen by producers a means of extending a shows ‘reach’ beyond the traditional formats.
