Ron Moore developing new Western drama

ABC{jcomments off}Ron Moore is developing a new Western drama for ABC.

Deadline reports that the Battlestar Galactica/Caprica showrunner is developing Hangtown for ABC, reports Deadline. The Western drama is set in the early 1990s and revolves around three characters; a Marshal, a young doctor with an interest in forensics and a female writer who is a crime novelist. Moore is developing the new Western with Matthew Roberts.  Hangtown isn’t the first Western that Moore has worked on in recent years. Last year he proposed a remake of The Wild Wild West for CBS but it wasn’t picked up.

Perhaps the most notable example of a Western drama in recent years is HBO’s Deadwood, which starred Ian McShane, and ran for three seasons between 2004 and 2006. Other notable Westerns include Bonanza, which ran between 1959 and 1973 and starred Lorene Green who went onto star in the original series of Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Gunsmoke and Wagon Train.
