Former Breakfast editor to join Daybreak

ITV has announced that David Kermode will be the new editor of Daybreak and work alongside Karl Newton who becomes executive producer. Kermode is currently editor of 5 News and has previously worked at the BBC on Breakfast and the BBC News Channel. Speaking of his new role, Kermode said: “I’m massively excited about taking the helm at Daybreak. I know it’s a fantastic team, there’s lots to do and I can’t wait to get started.”
Daybreak has struggled since its launch last September to increase the ratings of its predecessor GMTV. Ratings have averaged around 700,000, while its rival BBC One’ Breakfast attracts around 1.6 million viewers.
