News International to sell Wapping base
News International, which publishes The Sun newspaper, is to put its Wapping offices up for saleIn a staff to email today it was revealed that News International are to put their 15 acre site up for sale. The email to staff cited the current property market and economic climate as the reasons to do this. All staff will now relocate to the nearby Thomas Moore Square complex.
The Wapping site is where the UK’s top selling newspapers have been publishing from for many years. The site gained high media attention earlier this year due to the News of the World phone hacking scandal. Rupert Murdoch’s decision to move operations from the iconic Fleet Street to what was then in the 80’s a new base in Wapping attracted mass criticism and a battle with unions.
