Doctor Who: Day of the Daleks – out now on DVD

Daleks{jcomments off}The classic Doctor Who story Day of the Daleks, starring Jon Pertwee and Katy Manning is out today on DVD.

The 1972 Dalek story was one of the few in the original series not to be written by the mental monsters creator Terry Nation. Instead it was written by Louis Marks who didn’t include the Daleks in the original version but was asked to write them into the story by producer Barry Letts and script writer Terrance Dicks.

Day of the Daleks pits the Doctor against his old enemies again as time travellers from the 22nd century travel back in time to kill a man they believe is responsible for World War Three; a war which will alter time and allow the Daleks to invade the Earth once more. The Doctor (Jon Pertwee) and Jo (Katy Manning) travel to the 22nd century to a world run by Daleks where humans are nothing more than slaves in factories and the rebels are fighting a hopeless battle. Soon though the Doctor discovers the terrible truth about what really sparked the war that allowed the Daleks to invade.

Day of the Daleks

The DVD release of Day of the Daleks includes a special version of the story which modern special effects and other changes to the story. As ever the DVD release contains the usual array of features such as commentary track (guest-stars Anna Barry and Jim Winston, producer Barry Letts, script editor Terrance Dicks and  vision mixer) Mike Catherwood), a making of documentary, coming soon trailer, photo gallery and a whole range of other features.
