{jcomments off}Openly gay artists Joe McElderry and Will Young continue to enjoy success in the charts as both of their albums remain within the top 5.
The two artists, both who shot to fame after winning ITV singing competitions, remain within the top 5 in the UK albums charts. Joe McElderry has released his second album since winning The X Factor in 2009. Earlier this year, after being dropped by Simon Cowell’s record label, the singer took part in another ITV series; Popstar to Operastar and won seeing off competition from Cheryl Baker. McElderry’s success in Popstar to Operastar secured him a new record deal and his second album, Classic, remains in the top 5 several weeks after its release – McElderry is currently third in the UK albums chart.
Will Young, who won the first series of Pop Idol in 2002, released his fifth studio album Echoes in the same week as McElderry’s album debuted. Echoes debuted at number one in the UK Album Charts – his first album to debut at that position since Friday’s Child. Young also had success in the UK single charts with Jealousy. Echoes currently sits at number five in the UK album charts. Young has, recently, returned to acting appearing in the Sky Living supernatural series Bedlam.
