Doctor Who wins at the TV Choice Awards
Doctor Who picked up two awards at the 15th annual TV Choice Awards.
The ever popular BBC sci-fi series went home with two awards last night at the ceremony that took place at the Savoy Hotel in London. The series was named Best Family Drama beating its own spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures and fellow BBC One drama Waterloo Road – which picked up a National Television Award earlier this year to the shock of some (in the Corrie cast).
Actress Karen Gillan picked up the Best Actress for her role of Amy Pond in Doctor Who. Also nominated in the same category were fellow Who alums Alex Kingston, for the ITV drama Marchlands, Freema Agyeman for Law and Order UK and the late Elisabeth Sladen for The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Of interest Matt Smith didn’t manage to grab the Best Actor award as that went to his predecessor in the role, David Tennant for his role in the four-part drama Single Father. Tennant and Smith weren’t the only ‘Doctor’s’ nominated in the category though as Christopher Eccleston was also nominated for BBC Two drama The Shadow Line. That means all three actors who have portrayed the Time Lord since the 2005 revival were competing against each other in the same category – that doesn’t happen often.
