Downton Abbey Amazon's Top Selling TV DVD

Julian Fellowes drama Downton Abbey has become the top selling DVD on the internet retailer Amazon.

The lavish ITV period drama starring Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville made its television debut last year on UK terrestrial broadcaster ITV1. The drama, its first series set in the run-up to the First World War, was a ratings and critical hit for ITV with audiences topping 11 million viewers and critics heaping praise on the series. A second series was quickly ordered and will make its debut this weekend on ITV.

Now Amazon has revealed that the first series boxset has become its fastest selling TV boxset beating other popular shows such as Fawlty Towers, Doctor Who and American serials such as The West Wing. According to some reports the expectations are that the second season will smash the records even more with pre-orders already taking place despite the fact it won’t be available for a further two months.
