Heather to Trott out of Albert Square – EastEnders Axing

Cheryl Fergison is being axed from the BBC One soap EastEnders due to fears her character of Heather Trott could become a bore to viewers a newspaper suggests.

Cheryl joined the misery-based soap opera in 2007 in what was initially a short-term character. Nearly five years on the character of Heather has been at the centre of some of the saga’s most dramatic moments such as collapsing from an asthma attack in the middle of Albert Square to some of the most hilariously funny, for all the wrong reasons, and bizarre plots such as having a baby as a result of a cubical bonk with teenager Darren Miller.

The 47-year-old actress is being dumped from the BBC Elstree production, as show bosses fear the audience may become tired of the overweight, dopey, moaning character. Initially Heather proved a hit with viewers who voted her an award winner in the 2008 Soap Awards for the most funny performance. In recent times you didn’t need to be Mystic Meg to see the conclusion of her plots coming.

An insider told The Mirror: “Heather’s character has been hugely popular over the years. The decision has been taken to cut her out of the show before viewers tire of her. Cheryl will leave when her contract comes to an end…” They add, “A dramatic exit will see the character go out with a real bang.”

‘A real bang’ how worrying. Is poor Trott about to explode in the middle of the café after one cream bun too many? The insider also said that the exit storyline is being kept under wraps, which is highly unlikely considering the number of ‘EastEnders insiders’ who leak stories to the press.

An EastEnders spokesperson told the press, in an un-leaked fashion,: “We can confirm Cheryl Fergison will be leaving EastEnders when her contract comes to its natural conclusion next year.”

It hasn’t been revealed, well not yet, as to whether the George Michael loving character will be killed off or whether she’ll get a virtually unheard of EastEnders ‘happy’ ending.

In related news Joe Swash, who played Mickey Miller is said to be returning to the gloom filled Walford as part of the storyline, which sees his on screen brother Darren – played by actor Charlie G. Hawkins – dump his wife to be, apparently.
