ITV 1 announce new current affairs strand

ITV 1 is to launch a new current affairs strand called ‘Exposure’

 

The new strand will initially feature six single documentaries which will go in-depth on a particular issue. Ian Squires, ITV’s Controller of Current Affairs and News Operations, said: “Exposure aims to shed light on a number of powerful and important subjects, from the world stage to very human and emotional stories, within individual and narrative-led hour-long films.　I’m delighted that with this new strand, alongside the continued terrific output from Tonight, ITV1 continues to be a platform for a broad range of journalistic voices.”

 

The first of the ‘Exposure’ programmes will look into the dealings between ousted Libyan leader Colonel Gadhafi and the IRA. Other subject areas to follow in the coming weeks include criminals on the run and the behaviour of bailiffs.

 

It is said the new strand will work alongside ‘Tonight’ which airs weekly. ‘Tonight’ generally looks into more domestic and user friendly issues. The announcement comes as ITV looks to strengthen its news output. ITV are looking into the possibility of a 6.00pm ITV Newshour, combining national and regional news. ITV 1’s breakfast programme Daybreak now shares facilities with ITV News. ITV News UK Editor Kier Simmons last Friday hosted the show alongside Kate Garraway.
