One Direction reach Number One

Teen pop group One Direction have gone straight to No.1 in the UK Singles Chart

The band were put together by Simon Cowell at the Boot Camp stage of The X Factor last year. Their popularity seen them reach the final, finishing in third place. ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ has now become the fastest selling single of 2011 so far, selling 153,000 copies.

Yesterday the band had to cancel an appearance at the BBC Radio 1 studio in Central London due to health and safety fears. Hundreds of fans had arrived hoping to see them together. Instead the BBC decided to take One Direction to a secret location to conduct the interview. In a statement today, Radio 1 said: “Radio 1 and the police felt it was safer for the young listeners as well as the band if the interview was moved to a secret location.”
