Nominations for Inside Soap Awards revealed

HollyoaksThe nominations for this year’s Inside Soap Awards have been announced with the likes of EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Coronation Street battling it out to see which soap walks away with the most awards.

The awards will be handed out to the winners of each category in a ceremony in London on 26th September. Nominated in the Best Actor category are Emmett J Scanlan for his role of Brendan Brady in Hollyoaks, Scott Maslen as Jack Branning in EastEnders, Danny Miller for his role of Aaron Livesy in Emmerdale and Chris Gascoyne as Peter Barlow in Coronation Street. The Best Actress category see’s nods for Jessie Wallace and Katherine Kelly – both previously nominated – as well as Pauline Quirke for Hazel Rhodes in Danny MillerEmmerdale and Claire Cooper for her role of Jacqui Ashworth in Hollyoaks.

In the Best Young Actor category Hollyoaks‘ Ellis Hollins is once again nominated; the other nominations are Alex Bain (Simon Barlow) for Coronation Street, Maisie Smith (Tiffany Butcher) for and Joe-Warren Plant (Jacob Gallagher) for EastEndersEmmerdale. Paula Lane leads the nominations for Best Newcomer for her role of Kylie in Coronation Street. Pauline Quirke and Emmett J Scanlan are also nominated and Steven John Shepherd who joined the EastEnders cast earlier this year is nominated for his role of Michael Moon.

EastEnders receives two nominations in the Funniest Performance category – who said EastEnders wasn’t funny? – with Gillian Wright being nominated for her popular character of Jean Slater and co-star Tameka Empson for her role of Kim Fox. Patti Clare, who plays Mary Taylor, has been nominated for Coronation Street and Hollyoaks‘ Bronagh Waugh for her role of Cheryl Brady. Bill Tarmey’s touching exit from Coronation Street as Jack Duckworth leads the Best Exit nominations while Emmerdale’s assisted suicide plot has seen Marc Silock nominated for Jackson Walsh’ death. Hollyoaks receives a nomination for actress’ Carley Stenson’s exit and the category is rounded off by EastEnders for Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner) departure from Walford.

Hollyoaks’ Kieron Richardson is nominated in the Best Dramatic Performance category for his part in the soap’s gay domestic abuse storyline. Danny Miller is nominated for Emmerdale’s assisted suicide Kieron Richardsonstoryline while Jane Danson is up for Coronation Street for the live episode of Corrie in which she married Peter Barlow. The category is rounded off by Steven McFadden of EastEndes for Phil Mitchell’s drug storyline. The Best Wedding section see’s Roy and Hayley Cropper nominated for Corrie, EastEnders’ wedding of Tamwar and Afia, Emmerdale’s Chas Dingle and Carl King and Hollyoaks’ Gilly Roach and Steph Cunningham.

The prime-time soaps may dominate the awards but their daytime counter-parts will get a look in with two special categories. Neighbours is nominated twice in the Best Daytime Star as fan favourites Jackie Woodburne, who plays Susan Kennedy, and Ryan Moloney, who plays Toadie Rebecchi, are up against Esther Anderson (who plays Charlie NeighboursBuckton) of Home and Away and Matthew Chambers (Dr. Daniel Granger) of Doctors. Best Daytime Soap see’s Doctors up against Australian serials Home & Away and Neighbours.

Best Soap and it should need us to tell you that Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Coronation Street are all competing with each other. Casualty, Waterloo Road and Holby City are up against each other for Best Drama. And finally the Sexiest Male section will see Keith Duffy, Scott Maslen, Danny Miller and Danny Mac up against each other. Sexiest Female will see Jennifer Metcalfe, Sammy Winward, Jo Joyner and Michelle Keegan up against each other.
