Victor Garber nears deal to join Charlie's Angels

Charlie's AngelsAlias actor Victor Garber is near to a deal to join ABC’s revived Charlie’s Angel.

The actor would play the reclusive millionaire Charlie Townsend, who hires the three ‘angels’ to work for him, in the revived detective drama. Robert Wagner was originally hired to play the recluse but dropped out after the pilot due to “scheduling conflicts” forcing producers to seek out a new Charlie.

The late John Forsythe voiced the character of Charlie – he was never seen directly – in the original series and also for the two Hollywood movies produced a few years ago. The revived series will explore the back story of Charlie according to Al Gough, executive producer on the new series, and also that he’ll actually appear on screen at some point. The new Charlie’s Angels stars Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor, Annie Ilonzeh and Ramon Rodriguez as Bosley.

Producers have said that original series stars such as Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith could make appearances on the revived Charlie’s Angels once it has established itself.
