Salford for BBC Sporting Gong Show
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be broadcast for the first time from the BBC’s new home at MediaCity in Salford Quays.
The ceremony will take place on Sunday 22nd December with Sue Barker once more presenting the sports award show.
The BBC Sport presenter and former professional tennis competitor Barker has told the North West press that she “can’t wait to bring one of the most glittering events in the sporting calendar to Salford.”
Quoted in The Salford Advertiser Sue says, “It’s very exciting to be coming to Greater Manchester. I’ve been many times as a player and presenting A Question Of Sport, so I know how much the people of Manchester and Salford are into their sport.”
It’s the first time Salford will host the glittering event and the relocation all forms part of the BBC’s investment in Salford Quay’s which is now home to the beebs sport department.
“I think the studio will be bigger than the one in London, and we have some tickets that are open to the public, so I’m sure it’ll be a fantastic atmosphere.” Sue told the newspaper.
Sue Barker, who has hosted Sports Personality of the Year since 1994, will be joined by former England captain and Match Of The Day anchor Gary Lineker and Jake Humphrey of Formual One fame. The 2010 Sports Personality of the Year was awarded to jockey Tony McCoy.
