Desperate Housewives ratings hit

Marcia CrossThe return of Desperate Housewives to ABC last night for its eighth and final series saw the drama pulled in its lowest season premier ever.

The final season of Desperate Housewives didn’t exactly get off to a flying start last night as the soapy drama’s 8th and final season launched on ABC. The network confirmed over the summer that for the residents of Wisteria Lane the end is very much nigh – ending some debate of whether ABC would order a ninth season or not. Last night’s season premier pulled in 9.7 million viewers – its lowest opener ever.

Straight after Desperate Housewives was the launch of the hotly anticipated Pan Am, dubbed the new Mad Men by some. The drama, starring Christina Ricci, had 10.8 million viewers which is pretty good especially as it built on the audience it inherited from the Wisteria Lane set.
