Lady GaGa dedicates song to gay bullying victim Jamey Rodemeyer
{jcomments off}Lady Gaga dedicated a song to fan Jamey Rodemeyer who committed suicide because of bullying regarding his sexuality. The singer dedicated the song to the teenager while performing at the Las Vegas I Heart Radio festival over the weekend.
Teenager Jamey Rodemeyer committed suicide because he was subjected to bullying over his sexuality. He is the latest teenager in America to have committed suicide as a result of homophobia bullying. Last year there was a spate of suicides in the country which were linked to homophobic bullying. The suicides resulted in the high profile It Gets Better campaign; video messages recorded by high profile people giving their support to gay teens.
Lady GaGa was performing at the Las Vegas I Heart Radio when she dedicated a song to Rodemeyer stating “I lost a little monster this week and I’d like to dedicate this song to him,. Tonight, Jamey I know you’re up there and looking at us and you’re not a victim. Bullying is for losers. Put your hands up for Jamey!” reported E! Online. The singer has announced plans to meet with President Obama to discuss plans to end homophobic bullying.
Lady GaGa has also hailed the end of the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy of the American military which came to an end last week. The end of the policy means that gay men and women can now serve openly in the American military whereas before if their sexuality was discovered they faced being discharged.
