Doctor Who fans launch Twitter campaign to save Confidential series

Doctor Who ConfidentialDoctor Who fans have launched a campaign on Twitter to save the BBC Three behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential.

The BBC announced earlier today that BBC Three controller Zai Bennett had culled yet another series, Doctor Who Confidential. Since taking charge of the digital channel Bennett has wielded the axe more times that an executioner during the Tudor times. Most of Bennett’s casualties so far have been comedies such as Ideal and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. Now it seems though with cuts at the corporation looming – thanks to the coalition government and their dodgy licence fee freeze – Doctor Who Confidential has fallen victim to the axe.

Well Doctor Who fans are not ones to take cancellation lightly – just as Michael Grade – and within hours of the news had launched a campaign on Twitter to try and save the series. Doctor Who Confidential has accompanied the BBC series since its revival in 2005 and has offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at every episode made since then. The documentary series has featured interviews with key cast and crew members over the years such as Billie Piper, David Tennant, Catherine Tate, John Barrowman, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat.

So far over 3000 Doctor Who Confidential fans have signed up to the campaign on Twitter – the series was only axed this afternoon! So to have amassed so many followers in such a short space of time is an achievement in itself and a testament to the popularity of the series.
