Sally Bercow 'proud' of Celebrity Big Brother stint
Sally Bercow has said she is “very proud” about her short stint on Celebrity Big Brother.
Bercow, the wife of Commons Speaker John Bercow, was one of the housemates in Channel Five’s first series of Celebrity Big Brother. Bercow entered the house along with other ‘celebrities’ such as Amy Childs, Kerry Katona and X Factor duo Jedward. It had been rumoured for several weeks that Bercow would enter the house although she initially denied the press reports were true. However, it was later confirmed she was to enter the house and was donating her fee to charity, Ambitious about Autism. One of her children, Oliver, is autistic. .
“I’m very proud to be a parent patron of Ambitious about Autism and it has to be said that I was very proud to go into the Big Brother house to support Ambitious about Autism, and indeed that was my main motivation, although it was a blast as well…My husband John is also a parent patron of Ambitious about Autism and a very enthusiastic supporter, although he wasn’t quite as enthusiastic about me going into the Big Brother house it must be said.” – Sally Bercow quoted by the Press Association
Bercow’s time in the Celebrity Big Brother house was short-lived as she was the first housemate to be evicted by the public. However, it was long enough for some newspapers who were not impressed by her appearance in the series – such as the Daily Mail. Some press reports even claimed her marriage to John Bercow was under threat because of her appearance onĀ the Channel Five series.
