Wes Craven says Scream 5 'likely to happen'

ScremHollywood loves nothing more than a sequel – or to be more precise a franchise – and it looks like they’ll be another entry in the Scream franchise as Wes Craven says a fifth film is likely to happen.

The horror genre is littered with examples of franchises that turn out sequel after sequel – Saw and Final Destination both spring immediately to mind. So you shouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that Scream 5 is quite likely to happen – especially given Scream 4 was conceived as way of launching a new trilogy. Director West Craven has stated, that despite Scream 4’s lukewarm reception, a fifth film is odds on to happen.

“Yes. The odds are that there will be (a Scream 5). It is something that Bob Weinstein wants to do. He tends to do what he wants to do. So I am inclined to think that there will be (another sequel). Whether I will be a part of it or not? I don’t know. My contract gives me the first look. If they show me something that is really wonderful? Of course I will be a part of it.” – Wes Craven speaking to MovieWeb

The question is though is there anywhere left for Scream to go? How many more times can Sydney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courtney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette) battle serial killers and survive? Lets be honest each of them has been stabbed or shot at least once if not twice yet somehow always manage to survive while everyone around them is slaughtered. But then does that really matter? Aren’t well all watching the latest Scream movie to see Sydney, Gale and Dewey survive while everyone else perishes?
