Desperate Scousewives heading to E4

E4E4 has ordered a new ‘scripted reality’ television series – Desperate Scousewives.

E4 is heading to Liverpool to meet the glamorous girls and buff boys aspiring to make a name for themselves in the city famous for its big personalities, big dreams and even bigger hair. The eight part series, Desperate Scousewives (working title), is being made by Splash Media and will follow the lives of some of Liverpool’s most fabulous characters as they spend every last hard earned penny on making the best of themselves, and ultimately snare their perfect man.

In the city famous for its sporting elite, music magic and legendary nightlife, the ladies of Liverpool pride themselves on being some of the best looking and best turned out girls in the country. Not looking your best, or “looking a show” as they would say, is not an option; and with many hoping to bag a rich footballer, successful businessman, or a would-be star the competition is fierce – but the well maintained “Scouse eyebrows” are even fiercer. Set against the backdrop of Liverpool’s iconic landmarks including Liverpool Waterfront, Albert Dock, Anfield Stadium, Goodison Park and the dazzling new Liverpool One, cameras will follow the cast as they invite E4 into their lives – viewers will meet the characters, learn the lingo, and see what the wannabe wags really get up to in the pursuit of glamour and glory.

“Liverpool has a unique place in the nation’s hearts, the characters are bigger, the dresses are shorter and it’s going to be a lorra fun.” – Kate Teckman

To guarantee the series’ authenticity, critically acclaimed drama producer and one of Liverpool’s own, Mal Young (Ex-Controller of BBC Drama Series and producer of many TV hits including Brookside, Doctors, Holby City, EastEnders) will be co-Executive Producer.

“Liverpool is uniquely known the world over. I’m looking forward to being part of something that portrays my hometown and its vibrant characters in a new and exciting way – this is very much a view of life in the ultra-modern Liverpool” – Mal Young.

“Scousers are friendly and funny so I hope the viewer will feel the same. We’ve managed to get some fantastic characters with fascinating lives and great story lines. Throw all this into the vibrant and modern city that Liverpool has become and we are set for a fabulous series.” – Michael Massey

The series has been commissioned by Channel 4 Features Commissioning Editor Kate Teckman and will be executive produced by Michael Massey. It will be shown on E4 later this year.
