Strictly Come Dancing nears 10 million viewers on Sunday evening
The Strictly Come Dancing results show saw ratings nearing 10 million viewers while the X Factor topped 11 million viewers and Downton Abbey continued its strong performance for ITV.
Edwina Currie became the first celebrity to be booted off the current series of Strictly Come Dancing. The Sunday evening results show was seen by an impressive 9.8 million viewers which is more viewers than the Saturday evening edition of Strictly which had 8.7 million viewers. The X Factor results show also performed well for ITV1 with a strong 11.5 million viewers – higher than the average of 10.4 million who tuned in for Saturday’s marathon edition.
Following the X Factor was period drama Downton Abbey which continued to perform strongly for ITV. The fourth episode of the second season had 8.8 million viewers at 9pm with an additional 414,000 viewers on the ITV1 time-shift channel. That gives the fourth episode a combined audience of roughly 9.2 million viewers. ITV2’s reality saga The Only Way is Essex had 1.2 million viewers at 9pm with a further 130,000 watching an hour later on via time-shift.
Elsewhere on Sunday evening Adrian Chiles’ That Sunday Night Show had 2 million viewers. Countryfile on BBC One had a strong 7.1 million viewers at 6.30pm followed by the Antiques Roadshow with 5.8 million viewers. Spy drama Spooks pulled in 4.5 million viewers at 9pm.
