ATV's Pick of the Day: The Vampire Diaries – The Birthday

It’s back and for a third season; American import The Vampire Diaries returns to ITV2 tonight for its third season of supernatural goodness.

It’s Elena’s 18th birthday but while her friend Caroline is keen to organise a party she is more interested in uncovering clues about the whereabouts of her AWOL vampire boyfriend Stefan. He was last seen leaving Mystic Falls with original vampire Klaus after agreeing to join the vampire/werewolf hybrid in exchange for Klaus saving Damon’s life. Elena isn’t the only one searching for Stefan, Damon is keen to find his brother too but is trying to protect Elena and stop her from drawing the attention of Klaus.

Alaric is trying to cope with his grief over the death of Jenna while keeping an eye on Elena and Jeremy – who is still trying to understand why he is seeing the ghosts of his dead girlfriends, Vicky and Anna.
