Gossip Girl producers developing Misfits remake
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are developing a remake of the British superhero drama series Misfits.
The Hollywood Reporter states that Savage and Schwartz have acquired the rights to remake the critically acclaimed and award winning British drama. Misfits airs on E4 in the UK and has so far clocked up two seasons with a third due to air on the channel shortly. As well as being a ratings hit for the channel it has also picked up a BAFTA.
Misfits is now the latest British series to be remade for American audiences following in the footsteps of Shameless, Life on Mars, Free Agents, Being Human and The Office. Gossip Girl and Chuck producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are developing the remake but as yet there’s no network linked to the project. Misfit revolves around a group pf witty young adults who discover they have super-powers.
The duo’s other dramas, Chuck and Gossip Girl, are both in their fifth seasons. Spy comedy Chuck (starring Zachary Levi) airs on NBC and is due to return for its final series later this month. Teen-drama Gossip Girl (starring Leighton Meester, Blake Lively and Chace Crawford) airs on The CW and its fifth series has been tipped by some to be its last. It was revealed last week that Channel 4 (parent channel to E4) comedy/drama Sirens was being remade for American despite being axed after just one series in the UK.
