X Factor: Sami Brookes favourite for next elimination

Sami Brookes is the favourite to be the next contestant voted off the X Factor according to the latest betting odds.

The Welsh singer who was not in the original final 4 for Louis Walsh’s Over 25 category, was given a second chance when Goldie Cheung decided to quit the show. Gary Barlow said of her performance last weekend that she was verging on being a ‘cruise ship singer’ when delivering the Whitney Houston classic ‘I Will Always Love You’. It was at her audition that she wowed the audience with another Houston classic ‘One Moment In Time’.

The current favourite to win the show, which ends in December, is group The Risk. It is believed this is the first time that a group has been favourite via the bookmakers. If they do go on to win it will be the first time that a group has won the competition. In 2008, JLS came second against Alexandra Burke and have gone to to have major success in the UK charts with 4 Number 1 singles.

A campaign has begun to prevent the winner’s single getting the Christmas Number 1 spot for 2011. Anti-X Factor group are hoping that people will buy Nirvana’s ‘Smell Like Teen Spirit’ in aid for children’s charity Rhythmix. The song was originally a hit in 1991. In 2009, X Factor Joe McElderry (pictured, left) was beaten to the top spot by Rage Against The Machine following a similar campaign to stop the show getting the ‘prestigious’ Christmas Number 1.
