Tim Haines reveals Primeval spin-off details

Primeval{jcomments off}Primeval co-creator Tim Haines has discussed the forthcoming Canadian spin-off series.

Haines spoke about Primeval: New World in an interview with SFX magazine in which he revealed a few more details about the new spin-off – such as the style of the series which will be “darker” than its UK counter-part.

“It’s a spinoff….CSI—so the people in Miami do it, the people in New York do it. Essentially anomalies start appearing on the northern latitudes, and they’ve got to cope with it. And there is a little bit of crossover in the first episode, and then we’ll see how it goes after that. Mostly they’ll be getting on with it themselves.” – Tim Haines speaking to SFX

As for possible crossovers between New World and its UK parent series – and whether characters from the UK series will appear or not – Haines had this to say ‘Possibly….We’ve only got one at the moment—we haven’t worked that out.“. Production on the spin-off is due to begin next year in Vancouver and will air on Space in Canada. As what about the proposed movie version? Well Haines reveals ‘Jeff Pinkner is the writer, and as far as I know he’s redrafting.”

As yet the future of the UK series of Primeval isn’t all that clear. A fourth series aired on ITV1 earlier this year to somewhat disappointing ratings. A few months later the fifth season aired on digital channel Watch as per the co-production deal that saved Primeval from the axe. The fifth season will be repeated on ITV1 at a later date – most likely early next year.
