DVD Halloween Special: Vampire Boys, Unhappy Birthday and Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror
It’s Halloween a time to dress up in silly costumes, carve scary faces into pumpkins and dig out those old scary movies that have been gathering dust since this time last year. To mark Halloween 2011 we’ve produce a few small features on DVD’s you might want to dig out this year and our second look is at the gay end of the horror film genre as we recommend Unhappy Birthday, Vampire Boys and the Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror!
The Vampire Boys
There’s no getting away from the fact that vampires are now officially sexy whether they be in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries or The Lair the vampire has been reborn as a sex object – and quite right too! If you’re a fan of Here TV’s sexy series The Lair, or the similarly themed Dante’s Cove, then you’ll love Vampire Boys starring Jason Lockhart, Christian Ferrer, Dylan Vox and Jess Allen from director Charlie Vaughn.
“A brood of hot and hungry vampires are in desperate need of ‘The One’: a young, fresh blooded victim that can be turned into an eternal mate that allows them to live forever. Tara, a sexy and seductive college student who is open to suggestion, offers herself up to the gang of vampires but Jasin, the dominant leader, has other ideas as Caleb, a fresh-faced and innocent stranger, enters the scene.
Jasin is everything Caleb has dreamt of and both males feel an instant and uncontrollable connection, a connection that threatens to tear the vampire brood apart. Jasin has to decide which one is ‘The One’ as he asks: Who would you die for to live forever?”

Unhappy Birthday
If you’re a fan of horror films then look no further than Unhappy Birthday; a classic British horror film inspired by the likes of Hammer Horror and The Wicker Man but with a gay feel to it. Gay favourite David Paisley stars alongside David Gillivray and Jonathan Keane in this film.
“A surprise birthday party becomes a living nightmare for city-dwelling couple Sadie and Rick and their friend Jonny. They are invited to visit the remote tidal island of Amen by Corinne – an enigmatic local who hopefully holds the answers to long-buried family secrets. Amen is populated by a historically close-knit community who discourage strangers from visiting. So why have these three outsiders really been allowed on to the island? Despite the bucolic nature of the island the trio have a growing sense of unease, but they find themselves trapped by the tide and at the mercy of the islanders. As the horror of their situation unfolds, these visitors will wish they’d never been born!”

Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror
“On the eve of the biggest LGBT blowout of the year, five gay and lesbian couples find themselves having to make reservations at the secluded Sahara Salvation Inn. A leather daddy, a closeted drag queen, a fag-hag, lipstick lesbians, pink pound yuppies, a sugar daddy and his twink and a country singer and her baby-dyke girlfriend all check in to the creepy hotel, oblivious to the peril that lurks.
What should have been the party of the century quickly turns into every gay and lesbians worst nightmare when they discover that the hotel’s proprietor is a god-fearing gay-basher with a penchant for mincemeat muffins! If that wasn’t bad enough, a snarling, homosexual-eating Republican mutant starts to pick them off, one by one. Feather boas and strap-ons fly when the gays and the freaks go to battle, but who will make it out alive?
A hilarious grindhouse splat-fest in the spirit of Benny Hill and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror will have you clutching your pearls for dear life. Just keep repeating ‘It’s only a movie, it’s only a movie, it’s only a movie!”
