Vampire Diaries to focus on Damon/Elena relationship

The Vampire Diaries The Vampire Diaries will focus on the growing relationship between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) in upcoming episodes.

Up until the end of the second season the relationship between the two was strictly platonic despite Damon’s feelings towards Elena. The first season finale saw Damon kiss Elena only for it to be revealed as her vampire doppelganger Katherine who had seduced Damon and his brother Stefan (Paul Wesley) in 1864 and turned them both into vampires. Elena and Stefan’s relationship has previously been the focus of storylines on The Vampire Diaries but with the third season now airing – and Stefan having left Mystic Falls with original vampire Klaus (Joseph Morgan) – that’s changing. The series will address the relationship more directly in forthcoming episodes.

“There has yet to be an admission of that chemistry from her part…In fact, next week’s episode kind of illuminates that a little bit. A lot has gone unsaid….There’s a big elephant in the room as far as all these fun little stolen moments and romantic banter and their dynamic with each other. It hasn’t gone unnoticed from other people.” – Julie Plec talking to MTV News

The Vampire Diaries will return to UK screens, on ITV2, on Tuesday 11th September. The third season kicked off in America, on The CW, on September 15th meaning UK fans will only be a few episodes behind their American counter-parts.
