Channel Five{jcomments off}Channel 5 is reportedly preparing to launch a time-shift channel across the Freeview, Freesat and Sky platforms.

Broadcast reports that Channel 5 +1 is expected to launch in early December and will be available on the Virgin Media platform as well but not until next year. The move is to boost Channel Five’s ratings for its programmes which include Big Brother, The Wright Stuff and American imports such as CSI and Law & Order.

Channel Four
and ITV both have time-shift channels which help boost ratings for their programmes and have proven popular with audiences. C4 and ITV’s range of digital channels, such as E4 and ITV2, also have time-shift versions. With Channel Five launching a time-shift channel it will be mean the BBC will be the only terrestrial broadcaster without a time-shift version of either BBC One or Two.
