Eve Myles rules out Doctor Who appearance for 50th anniversary

Eve MylesTorchwood actress Eve Myles thinks its unlikely her character of Gwen Cooper will crossover to Doctor Who for its 50th anniversary.

Discussing the possibility of a crossover to mark the sci-fi’s anniversary the Welsh actress didn’t think it would likely happen because of Torchwood‘s adult themes. Doctor Who will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2013 and already speculation and debate has begun as to how the series will mark the occasion – some fans are hopeful of a multi-Doctor story which have been used to mark previous anniversaries. Myles Torchwood co-star John Barrowman has spoken several times of his willingness to return to Doctor Who for the anniversary. Myles herself though doesn’t think it’s likely she’ll be called on to crossover.

We have lots of adult themes running in Torchwood and I think it would be inappropriate for us to have anything to do with Doctor Who because it’s predominantly a family programme. I think that where Torchwood is, it deals with darker subjects and I think inter-mixing them, if they want to do that, then fine but I can tell you that I’m not involved in it—they won’t give me guns or a bazooka. –

As quite a few others have pointed out there have been several crossovers already between Doctor Who and Torchwood. Myles has already appeared in two episodes of Doctor Who as Gwen Cooper – the two-part season four finale The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End. The story saw John Barrowman and Gareth David-Lloyd appear alongside her as well as the late Elisabeth Sladen and Tommy Knight of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Another crossover between the two shows happened in Torchwood‘s second season when Freema Agyeman appeared in three episodes as Martha Jones – former companion to the Doctor (David Tennant). So perhaps the actress is forgetting her previous appearance in the series.

Myles most recently played Gwen Cooper in Torchwood: Miracle Day which aired earlier this year on BBC One and Starz. The future of the spin-off is currently unclear with John Barrowman recently stating he wasn’t sure if it would return – read more here >>
