ITV orders more The Only Way Is Essex

The Only Way Is EssexITV has reportedly ordered four more seasons of The Only Way is Essex.

Sunday tabloid The People claim that the broadcaster has ordered four further seasons of the ‘structured’ reality television series – that’s a further 40 episodes of Essex antics. The third season of TOWIE ended on Wednesday with nearly 1.5 million viewers.

However, while the show has, so far, continued to enjoy ratings success it has lost some of its biggest names. Amy Childs quit the series ahead of its third season to appear in Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5 and Mark Wright has quit to appear in the new series of I’m A Celebrity..Get Me Out Of Here! There are now reports that other TOWIE cast Mark Wrightmembers such as Sam Faiers, Lauren Goodger, James ‘Arg’ Argent and Harry Derbidge, who has spoken of his desire to launch his own spin-off, are also considering quitting the ITV2 series.

The People reports that ITV plan to air four ten-episode seasons across next year beginning in January. ‘TOWIE has been a huge success and producers are confident it can carry on doing well. Committing to four series for 2012 is a big deal and it will feel to the viewing public like it is pretty much always on.’ A source told The People.

The success of TOWIE has prompted similar shows such as E4’s Made in Chelsea and MTV’s Geordie Shore.
