Susan Lucci speaks out over All My Children being shelved
Susan Lucci has issued a statement about Prospect Park’s decision to halt its plans to continue daytime soap All My Children online. The actress denies the decision was as a result of her refusal to continue in the role of Erica Kane.
The twist and turns of the All My Children saga continue – it’s almost a mini soap opera itself. Two weeks ago it was revealed that Prospect Park had halted its plans to produce new episodes of AMC online – it was instead concentrating on fellow soap One Life to Live. The future of AMC is now unclear – will it return as Prospect Park re-launches OLTL or is it doomed forever?
Since news broke of Prospect Park’s decision internet forums have been ablaze with speculation over what prompted the decision. The company certainly had more success signing on OLTL actors to continue than AMC – only two had officially signed deals. However, was that the reason fans asked? Soon some speculation began the decision was because original cast member Susan Lucci declined to continue in her role of diva Erica Kane. Well the actress has issued a statement declaring she wants her fans to know the truth.
“I want my fans to know the truth. There has been miscommunications as a result of statements in the press that I am one of the reasons that All My Children is not moving forward. This is simply untrue and not the case,. We have been in discussions since Prospect Park first expressed interest in moving the series online, and in correspondence dated September 8th, I made it clear that I would be ecstatic to be a part of All My Children in a prominent way if they committed to producing the series for another year. I have not heard back from Prospect Park since then, in fact, I learned of their decision not to proceed with All My Children at the same time you did, through the media.” – Susan Lucci on her Facebook page
Whatever the future holds for AMC, its cast and fans one thing is clear – the saga is set to continue for some time yet.
