Adrian Chiles 'unhappy' over Daybreak axe

Adrian Chiles has seemingly confirmed he and fellow presenter Christine Bleakley have been axed from Daybreak and has told a Sunday tabloid he is “unhappy” about the way the news was leaked.

Over the past few days reports have once again surfaced in several newspapers claiming that Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley were to be axed from Daybreak in an attempt to turn around the fortunes of the breakfast series. Since it launched in September 2010, as a replacement for GMTV, there have been many such reports as ratings failed to impress and the critics were quick to attack.

Now though it seems the latest reports of the presenters alleged axings is true; in an interview with Sunday tabloid, The People, Adrian Chiles has seemingly confirmed he and Bleakley will be leaving. Chiles told the tabloid ‘We were assured we could go with our dignity intact. That’s obviously not happened. We were enjoying the show and we thought things were going well. We didn’t want to go’. The presenter added the news was ‘a bolt out of the blue and has come as a big blow to our careers that we’ve been dumped at this time…Dark forces have leaked it for their own ends and I am mightily unhappy about it.’

Bleakley and Chiles have been at the centre of a lot of the criticism aimed at Daybreak with accusations that audience haven’t warmed to them. ITV bosses hoped the duo would work their ‘magic’ in the breakfast slot having successfully worked together on The One Show, on BBC One, where they were both poached from.

The two are still expected to continue working for ITV despite their impending exits from Daybreak; Chiles also fronts ITV’s football coverage and also hosts That Sunday Night Show. Last week it was revealed Christine Bleakley will co-present Dancing on Ice for ITV when it returns in January taking over from Holly Willoughby.
