Gossip Girl producers not expecting to be axed
Ahead of Gossip Girl‘s 100th episode the producers of The CW drama series have stated they aren’t expecting to be axed and are working on another season.
Amidst rumours that Gossip Girl could be cancelled by The CW because of disappointing ratings the producers of the glamorous drama have spoken about the shows forthcoming 100th episode. In the interview they briefly discuss the show’s future and reveal they are planning for another season and no one has hold them it ‘wrap it up’.
Joshua Safran told Entertainment Weekly ‘We’ve had no one saying to us, ‘Wrap it up. This is the last season.’ So we’re not treating the season finale as such’. Meanwhile Stephanie Savage revealed the season six finale would leave fans wanting more ‘We see the finale as a continuing, developing story…At the same time, like every season, we plan to show the characters’ evolution and where we’re going to go with all the twists and turns that are about to happen. So there are no plans to wrap it up.‘ Gossip Girl also got a vote of confidence from Peter Roth, president of Warner Brothers Television, who told Entertainment Weekly ‘I can’t really say at this point, but I would hope and expect that there would be at least another year — if not years– to come.’
Gossip Girl isn’t the only CW drama to be struggling in the ratings and there are some who are now predicting a brutal cull of underperforming shows by the broadcaster. Other dramas tipped for cancellation include Nikita, Hart of Dixie and 90210.
