DVD Review: Longhorns

ATV Today reviews comedy drama Longhorns, starring Dylan Vox with Jacob Newton, Derek Efrain Villanueva and Kevin Held, which is out now on DVD.

Longhorns is a comedy in similar style to Another Gay Movie though its a bit less crude. It’s set in 1982 in Texas though to be honest there isn’t a huge about to define its setting bar reference to VHS (rather than DVD or blu-ray) and a Polaroid camera. It’s plot is a ‘straight’ guy who realises he’s gay. It’s a plot of many a gay romance film but Longhorns gives it a refreshing comedy twist – Kevin (Jacob Newton) is far from straight to begin with! He gives his frat-friend Justin (Kevin Held) a hand job, and regularly wanks with him while watching porn, and also gives his best friend Steven (Dylan Vox) blow jobs. It’s the arrival of Cesar (Derek Efrain Villanueva) which begins to make him doubt his heterosexuality! As if it wasn’t under ‘threat’ already!

At some point in the film all the male cast have, what most people would call, a gay experience – of verifying degrees. The film likes to play with the audiences expectation that all the male cast are suddenly going to turn gay – leading to some very funny moments. Longhorns is a laugh-out-loud sexy comedy where all the main male cast get butt naked at some point. It’s a good looking cast though so you won’t hear many complaints about the moments of full front nudity. There’s a mild love plot running through the film but at its core is a comedy that lightly spoofs all those romantic films of straight boys turning gay that has gone before it.

If you’re looking for a good laugh with a nice looking cast that doesn’t mind getting butt naked then Longhorns is for you.
