Jason Gardiner to be axed from Dancing on Ice?

DOI-Jason-GardinerA tabloid newspaper claims Dancing on Ice judge Jason Gardiner could be replaced for the next series of the ITV competition which starts in January.

The Sun claims that bosses are considering replacing Jason Gardiner and Emma Bunton as judges for the next series. The tabloid reports that neither judge has yet been offered a contract for the show that is due to begin shortly. The tabloid even claims that camp star Louie Spence is under consideration as a possible replacement.

‘This year’s judging line-up is being taken to the wire. Producers want to refresh things and Jason and Emma look the most vulnerable. The show has been running for several years and like all ITV shows they are overhauled occasionally to keep viewers interested’ – A “source” quoted by The Sun

However, it should be pointed out that “shake ups” of Britain’s Got Talent and the X Factor haven’t been all that successful. Both shows, while still attracting good ratings, haven’t quite captured the highs of previous years. The X Factor has been plagued by reports of infighting between the judges while Britain’s Got Talent is once again looking for two new judges.

Replacing Jason Gardiner could backfire on ITV as although he’s controversial and has caused outcry before for his harsh and blunt comments he is, undoubtedly, heavily associated with the series. He’s a ‘character’ that the audience love to hate and replacing him could prove a turn off for viewers. An ITV spokesperson has merely stated ‘We have not yet announced the judging panel for the 2012 series.’

Last week it was revealed that Christine Bleakley would be the new co-presenter alongside Phillip Schofield replacing Holly Willoughby. It is Bleakley’s first major prime-time presenting role since joining ITV last year to front Daybreak.
