Pardon The Expression to be released on DVD

Comedy Pardon The Expression, a spin-off from Coronation Street starring Arthur Lowe, is set to be released on DVD.

Network DVD are releasing the complete series which stared Arthur Lowe and the late Betty Driver who later joined the cast of Coronation Street itself as Rovers barmaid Betty Turpin. In Pardon the Expression the actress played Mrs Edgeley in all 36 episodes of the comedy. The spin-off followed the character of Leonard Swindley (Lowe) in new his new position as manager of a chain store. Lowe had been a regular cast member of Coronation Street between 1960 and 1965 and at one point his character very nearly married a young Emily Nugent (Eileen Derbyshire), better known to viewers today as Emily Bishop.

Comedy Pardon The Expression ran for two seasons between 1965 and 1966 clocking up 36 episodes and the DVD releases includes a Christmas Special which was filmed but never broadcast. Amongst those to make appearances in the series are Julie Goodyear and Amanda Barrie both of whom would later join Coronation Street while Dad’s Army actors John Laurie and John Le Mesurier also appear. Pardon the Expression was followed in 1967 by the short-lived sequel Turn out the Lights in which Lowe once again reprised his role of Leonard Swindley.
