Simon Cowell to return to Britain’s Got Talent?

Amanda Holden and Simon CowellAnother day, another rumour; a tabloid report claims Simon Cowell is to return to Britain’s Got Talent.

The Mirror claims that Simon Cowell is to return to Britain’s Got Talent in order to keep it at the top of the ratings chart. Cowell quit the ITV series to concentrate on his American commitments (i.e launching the X Factor over there) as did fellow judge Piers Morgan who went off to launch his CNN chat-show. The duo were replaced on the BGT panel by Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff both of whom have now left and producers are once again looking for new judges.

So there have been plenty of tabloid stories, especially within the last week, about who will be joining the BGT line-up for the next series. The latest report, in The Mirror, claims that Cowell himself will return – he has been rumoured to return to the X Factor all season and so far he hasn’t made an appearance. The paper also claims that Cowell wants acting legend Barbara Windsor to become a new judge – another name to add to the growing list reported by the tabloids.

Barbara Windsor in EastEnders“Simon wants to make it the biggest, most successful series yet. His presence will be a guaranteed ratings winner as he is so popular with viewers….Simon’s been focussing on US X Factor and viewing figures for his British shows have fallen. He won’t take chances with BGT.” –

Barbara Windsor is the latest name to be suggested by the tabloids with recent reports claiming Dannii Mingoue, David Walliams and Samantha Womack – who starred alongside Windsor in EastEnders – are all favourites to join. The Mirror goes on to claim that Walliams is still a contender for the judges panel because Cowell is considering adding a fourth judge – again. A fourth judge was briefly added to Britain’s Got Talent when Kelly Brook was hired in 2009 but only lasted a week before producers decided they didn’t need a fourth judge after all.
