Brian Frons leaves ABC Daytime

ABCABC‘s daytime president Brian Frons is stepping down and will be replaced by Vicki Dummer.

Frons will remain with ABC until the end of his contract in January 2012 to ease the transition  from himself to Drummer. According to The Hollywood Reporter Dummer will take charge of a new integrated entertainment and programming division called Times Square Studios which will include programmes such as The View, The Revolution, The Chew and Katie Couric’s forthcoming chat-show.

Frons is notorious to daytime soap fans for his cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live earlier this year – a move that met with widespread hostility from viewers. All My Children’s leading actress Susan Lucci was highly critical of Frons and his cancellation of the two soaps in her memoirs. The two soaps are being replaced with lifestyles programmes which are cheaper to make. The future of ABC’s last remaining soap, General Hospital, remains unclear and far from secure.
