5 News cost cutting details emerge
Channel 5 News reporters from next year will reportedly edit their own footage as part of cost cutting measures.
ITN will begin to produce news programmes for Channel 5 in February next year after the channel decided to end the Sky News contract early. The move back to ITN will see a number of staff being made redundant and the introduction of cheaper filming equipment.
According to the Media Guardian, 5 News cameramen will be given “low-budget” cameras and undertake a range of other duties to keep costs down. It will also see some on-air reporters editing their own footage ready for broadcasting.
Former CNN international director of coverage, Geoff Hill, will become editor of Channel 5 News. ITN produced the news for 5 since the channel launched in 1997 until 2005.
