Chiles and Bleakley leave Daybreak with 800,000 viewers

Desperate ScousewivesAdrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley’s final edition of Daybreak didn’t send ratings soaring yesterday morning while E4‘s Desperate Scousewives saw its ratings tumble on Monday evening.

In a low-key exit Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley fronted their last edition of Daybreak yesterday morning. They were expected to remain with the ITV breakfast programme until the end of the year but reports emerged last week claiming they would leave much, much sooner. The two have been dropped by ITV as it seeks new presenters to turn around the fortunes of the much mangled Daybreak; Bleakley and Chiles will now front prime-time shows.

According to early ratings the ratings for their final edition were as low key as the programme itself. An average audience of just 800,000 viewers tuned in – no big rise in viewers to wave the duo goodbye. The key test will be, of course, whether ratings rise or not when ITV picks its new presenters.

Elsewhere yesterday E4’s brand new scripted reality series Desperate Scousewives took a tumble in the ratings. It had just 318,000 viewers last night at 10pm – down a fair bit on last week’s impressive debut. However, it is too early to write off the series just yet, the ratings could yet bounce back.
