Sky Atlantic orders more This Is Jinsy

Sky Atlantic HDSky Atlantic has ordered a second series of the quirky comedy This Is Jinsy.

Sky Atlantic HD announce that cult comedy This Is Jinsy will return to the channel for a second series. The Welded Tandem Picture Company will produce 8 x 30’ new episodes in 2012, for transmission in 2013. The brainchild of newcomers Chris Bran and Justin Chubb, This Is Jinsy is a truly original comedy about the eccentric residents of the fictional island Jinsy. A mixture of surreal sketches and inspired musical interludes, the show garnered much critical acclaim and has this week received a nomination at the British Comedy Awards 2011. The first series featured a who’s-who of comic guest stars as you’d never seen them before, such as David Tennant, Harry Hill, Catherine Tate, Jennifer Saunders, Jane Horrocks, Simon Callow and Peter Serafinowicz. The second series will head back to the island to find Maven (Chubb) and Sporall (Bran) with a host of new characters, some returning favourites and plenty of songs in the finest Jinsy tradition.

“I can’t wait to travel back to the wonderful island of Jinsy for another series of insanely brilliant comedy. Chris and Justin’s creation is the perfect fit for Sky Atlantic HD and its wealth of unique story-telling.”  – Lucy Lumsden, Head of Comedy, Sky

: “’We are thrilled that Sky Comedy is bringing This Is Jinsy back to Sky Atlantic. Series two will be bigger, better and funnier. More songs, the return of our titanic tag team of director Matt Lipsey and editor Charlie Phillips, but most importantly another opportunity for Chris and Justin to put on wigs and generally tit around with stuffed animals.”  – Executive Producer Chris Carey and Producer James Dean, The Welded Tandem Picture Company

This Is Jinsy is created and written by Chris Bran and Justin Chubb. It is a Welded Tandem Picture Company production for Sky Atlantic HD and will be produced by Chris Carey and James Dean. The series was commissioned by Lucy Lumsden, Head of Comedy for Sky, who also acts as executive producer. The series is part of Sky’s commitment to increase its investment in original British content by 50% over the next three years. By 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its portfolio of channels. Our commitment to this home grown content will include an increased spend across comedy, drama, factual and the arts.

Sky’s new and ambitious comedy strategy kick-started with the launch of the BAFTA® nominated Little Crackers in 2010. Trollied followed in 2011 and became the most watched multi-channel comedy ever. Since then, Mount Pleasant, The Cafe and Spy, plus the second series of the hit An Idoit Abroad, have formed an impressive roster of home-grown comedy across the entertainment portfolio. Sky’s comedies have recently earned five British Comedy Award nominations.
