Filming starts on new Red Dwarf

Filming has begun on the new series of sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf.

The new season of the comedy reunites stars Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn. It follows the successful revival of Red Dwarf in 2009 for the three-part Back to Earth special which was a ratings hit for Dave. The success of the three-part special prompted press rumours that the digital channel would order another series – earlier this year it did so.

The new series of Red Dwarf will air on Dave sometime next year. The comedy originally aired on BBC Two between 1988 and 1999 clocking up 8 seasons. A ninth season was planned but was rejected by the BBC effectively cancelling the comedy leading to the ten year gap between the 8th season and the special Back to Earth.
