Cheryl Ladd on the Charlie's Angels remake

Cheryl Ladd has spoken about ABC‘s recent Charlie’s Angels remake which was cancelled after just a handful of episodes.

The ABC remake of the detective drama followed on from two Hollywood films in the early 2000s which starred Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Lui. A television revival of Charlie’s Angels had been in development for several years before it was finally picked up by ABC earlier this year.

The new series starred Annie Ilonzeh, Rachael Taylor and Minka Kelly as three new angels but the new version failed to take-off with viewers and was cancelled by ABC after just a handful of episodes.

Original series actress Cheryl Ladd has discussed what she thought of the new version and why she felt it failed to be a hit. Speaking to TV Line the actress told the entertainment news site that she felt the new version lacked the close relationship between the angels that the original had ‘You felt like all of us were just crazy about each other, that we would die for each other, that we had a real friendship with each other and cared about each other’

As for the decision to make the new angels former bad-girls rather than police officers the actress told TV Line ‘ “I get that it had to be a fresh version, but it was just so different….It was not enough heart and too many explosions.”

Ladd joined the cast of Charlie’s Angels at the beginning of its second series as Kris Monroe. She was hired by producers to replace Farrah Fawcett-Majors who had quit after just one series. Ladd’s character was introduced as the younger sister of Major’s character. Ladd remained with the cast of the drama until it was cancelled after five seasons in 1981.
